Jikyeong Kang is the New President and CEO of the Asian Institute of Management

The Board of Trustees of the Asian Institute of Management, led by Chairman Polly Nazareno, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dean Jikyeong Kang, PhD as President and CEO of AIM effective October 6, 2015.  She has graciously agreed to serve AIM as President, CEO and Dean.  She will replace Dr. Steven J. DeKrey, who announced his resignation as President and CEO on September 24, 2015, after serving his three-year term. Dr. DeKrey has kindly agreed to stay on as Senior Advisor until the end of October to ensure a smooth transition.

We are very keen to leverage AIM’s over 40,000 alumni across the world, its relationships with business and policy leaders, and the AIM faculty’s deep understanding and experience with the on-the-ground realities of effectively managing in a global environment.”

DR. JIKYEONG KANG, PRESIDENT, CEO AND DEAN

Dr. Jikyeong Kang joined AIM in January 2015 as Dean, Senior Vice President of Marketing, and MVP Professor of Marketing at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), Philippines.  Since she joined AIM, she has intensified faculty engagement based on shared aspirations and sharpened focus on thought leadership in key subject areas of management. With the faculty and external stakeholders, she has spearheaded a strategic review and redesign of AIM’s portfolio of offerings beginning with the flagship MBA program.

She earned her PhD from the University of Minnesota, her MSc from Colorado State University, and her BSc from Hanyang University, Korea.

Prior to assuming her post at AIM, Jikyeong was the Director of the DBA Program at Manchester Business School (MBS) from 2010 to 2014. In the Financial Times rankings, MBS achieved the number one spot for Doctoral Programs from 2011 to 2013.

At MBS, she also served as Director of the Postgraduate Centre in charge of MBS’ MBA Programs from 2001 to 2007, where she was instrumental in propelling the full-time MBA program’s Financial Times ranking from 47th in 2002 to 22nd in 2007, the highest ranking that the Program has ever achieved. Whilst she was in charge of the MBA programs, MBS became one of the first schools to earn triple accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA). 

Dr. Kang has taught around the world as a Visiting Professor, including IE in Spain; the Rotterdam School of Management in The Netherlands; CEIBS in China; and Sogang Graduate School of Business in Korea.

DR. STEVEN DEKREY

Dr. DeKrey assumed office as the ninth president of the AIM in August 2012.

Speaking before the AIM faculty and staff on September 24, Dr. DeKrey said, “I am proud of all the work we have done to build the community and enhance the position of AIM. My wife, Veronica, and I are grateful to the AIM community for their support throughout my term of office.”

These achievements included an expansion of management programs, the renewal of AIM’s AACSB accreditation, naming of the Development School, overseeing the international Dean search process, strengthening the relationship with the Harvard Business School, and engagement with alumni and regional business communities.

The AIM Board, faculty, students and staff have expressed deep appreciation for all he has contributed to the Institute.

He and Mrs. DeKrey look forward to moving closer to her family in Hong Kong, and to spending more time with his two grown daughters.

Prior to joining AIM, Dr. DeKrey served as the senior associate dean, director of master’s program, and adjunct professor of management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) School of Business and Management.

Dr. DeKrey obtained his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University (1985), his PhD in Sport Psychology from the University of Iowa (1982), his MSc in School Psychology (1977) from the University of Wisconsin, and BA degree (1975) in Psychology from Bemidji State.
