EGADE Plans New Global Network Course on Strategies for International Expansion

January 9, 2015

The course, “International Management and Organizational Structures,” will analyze the role of strategic decision making in the global expansion process of businesses.

EGADE Business School will host its first Global Network course titled “International Management and Organizational Structures” beginning February 5.

The two month long course, taught by Dr. Raúl Montalvo, director of EGADE Business School Guadalajara, seeks to analyze the role of strategic decision making in the global expansion process of businesses. Local, regional or national, and international business traits continue to be one of the most important components in strategic decision making and have a huge impact on multinational companies when they attempt to export their business model to other regions. Topics like infrastructure, culture, buying power, legal framework, geography, the makeup of the market, consumer behavior, and others are decisive factors that could force companies to adapt or even rethink their business models.

The course consists of classes, discussion forums, interviews, and a final project in teams. It combines analysis from three main angles: the business context (the country or region’s economic figures, business framework, consumer behavior, etc.), the business model, and the expansion strategy (case studies on the strategy used by different companies from different countries and sectors). It will all be reinforced by participation from guest speakers who were involved in their companies’ expansion and who will share their experience with the class.

At the end of the course, as a final project, students will analyze in groups what the best strategy is to take a local company global.
