Kozminski University Poland
This Global Network Week course introduces participants to the specifics of business model innovation of firms from various industries in a post-transition economy of Poland. This course will focus on the challenges faced by companies and strategies through which they seek ways to overcome competitive pressures in domestic and international markets. Consequently, new value creating, delivering and capturing activities on the one hand increase international competitiveness of Polish companies, and on the other hand make competition more demanding for subsidiaries of multinational corporations in the local market against companies of Polish origins. The course covers interrelated phenomena related to transformation of business models such as traditional and open innovation activities (e.g. corporate acceleration, startup factories), digitalization as well as integration of stakeholders and sustainability principles into core operations. This course features in-class case study discussions, guest speakers involved in business model innovation activities in SMEs and MNCs, a company visit and cultural activities. This multi-perspective learning will help participants to better understand the economic and cultural heritage of Poland, as a rising post-transformational economy and unique experiences of successful companies which have overcome the challenges of the unstable business environment. As a part of this course, participants will have an opportunity to experience the process of business model innovation design and introduction through team projects in cooperation with the companies. By examining case studies and applying learned concepts to business practice, the goal of this course is to prepare managers for leading business model innovation initiatives in a variety of industries and firm sizes.
