Business Model Innovation in the Age of AI and Digitalization

This course explores the transformative power of business model innovation in driving firm performance and competitive advantage. Business model innovation is critical for both startups and established firms as industries undergo rapid technological, competitive, and regulatory change. The course equips students with tools to design, implement, and adapt innovative business models in dynamic environments.

Students will analyze how firms respond to disruptive entrants, decide whether to operate single or multiple business models, and address the strategic and organizational challenges that arise when business models coexist in an organization. We examine multisided platforms, entrepreneurial strategies that challenge incumbents, and how organizations leverage business model innovation to compete even in mature industries. We also explore how generative AI is reshaping value creation, cost structures, customer interfaces, and industry boundaries, enabling new entrants while forcing incumbents to rethink their business models and strategic positioning.
