Yale Professor Edward H. Kaplan Elected INFORMS President

Kaplan will be president of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences starting in 2016.

Edward H. Kaplan, the William N. and Marie A. Beach Professor of Operations Research at the Yale School of Management and a leading scholar in the field, has been elected president of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). Kaplan will assume the post in January of 2016.

INFORMS is the largest society in the world for professionals in the field of operations research, management science, and analytics. It publishes many highly regarded academic journals, including Operations Research, Management Science, Marketing Science, Manufacturing and Services Operations Management, Mathematics of Operations Research, Organization Science, and Interfaces, among others.

Professor Kaplan’s pioneering work in public health and homeland security has won him numerous INFORMS awards. His research has been reported on the front pages of the New York Times and the Jerusalem Post, editorialized in the Wall Street Journal, recognized by the New York Times Magazine's “Year in Ideas,” and discussed in many other major media outlets. His current research focuses on the application of operations research to problems in counterterrorism and homeland security.
