  • Business entrepreneurs who wish to deepen understanding of SWOT analysis and coopetition strategies for the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environments in the ASEAN as they expand or anticipate domestic competition from outsiders
  • Managers and Business leaders who want to gain an edge by sharpening his or her existing knowledge on ASEAN.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The course will explain practical steps that should be taken by business and development organizations in determining their strengths and weaknesses and in examining the available opportunities and challenges to be brought about by the ASEAN Economic Integration. Questions to be answered include: What are the new strategies to be pursued? Since ASEAN is an open regional approach that welcomes Dialogue Partners in their liberalization of trade and investment, how will their relations with current partners in other regions be affected? What are the new strategies that work for various industries? Why is innovation in inputs, processes and products important as economies of scale are required for the 600 million plus market?   What strategies inside organizations must be pursued? How must communication be conducted for internal and external stakeholders?

COURSE OUTLINE:

The course contains the following outline of topics:

  • The chaotic environments of ASEAN (using the latest management approach based on VUCA – volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity), Definition of the Problem, and Environmental Analysis
  • Examination of concerns in economic integration affecting supply chain participants
  • Identifying patterns for preparing strategies through chaos-based SWOT
  • Organizational Strategy including Internal and External Communication
  • Value Creation, Co-opetition strategies in ASEAN
  • Scenario Planning
  • Project Team Presentations on Strategy Setting for ASEAN 2016 and Beyond
  • Synthesis

LEARNING METHODOLOGY:

Live cases, case discussion, lecture, simulation, role playing, world café group exercise, focus group discussion.

At least 65% of the week will be based in the classroom with the remainder consisting of company visits and cultural immersion activities. Students will be grouped according to project teams and may also be required to complete learning journal assessments. They will be asked to prepare pre-course assignments for their projects.

Project team presentations will be done the end of the course.
